The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) won the FIFA Fail Play award during the FIFA Ballon D’OR ceremony in Zurich on Monday.
Thousands of the participants of the ceremony applauded as Afghanistan was announced winner for the award.
Afghanistan was honored with the award for the outstanding performance of the Afghanistan football during the year, despite chaos of war and difficult political situation the country is facing.
FIFA in a statement posted on its website said, “Following a year of remarkable achievement in grassroots level football, building infrastructure to further develop football throughout the country and nurturing a professional league despite enduring over a decade of disorder stemming from war, Afghanistan has been presented the 2013 FIFA Fair Play award.”
It was the first time Afghanistan was nominated for the award in FIFA Ballon D’Or award, during the 90years history of the Afghanistan football.
Afghanistan succeeded Uzbekistan to receive the FIFA Fair Play Award for the year 2013.
The Afghanistan Football Federation chief, Keramuddin Karim and Reza Aqazada, the secretary general of the Afghanistan Football Federation attended the ceremony and received the award.
